Don’t be scared—everyone, even the most experienced hikers, had a first time camping! Believe it or not, many of our trips are filled with first-timers just like you. No need to worry; we’ll provide you with all the advice and tips you need. By the end of the trip, you’ll feel like a seasoned hiker. Most of our routes are designed with beginners in mind, so all you have to do is pick the one that interests you the most!
The weight of your backpack is made up of two parts: personal belongings and food or shared equipment. When packing, focus on bringing only the essentials. Ideally, your backpack should weigh no more than 12 kg when you leave the house. Additionally, plan to carry up to 4 kg of food for girls and women, and around 6-7 kg for men.
Our group is diverse! While many participants are young guys and girls, often students, we also welcome children with their parents, schoolchildren, adults, and even older individuals. Our hikers range in age from 7 to 60 years old. We have teachers, bankers, doctors, lawyers, programmers, economists, and businesspeople—anyone who needs a break from city life and wants to enjoy the company of interesting, like-minded people. It’s hard to give a definitive answer because, for long hikes, you’ll likely need both types of shoes. The key is that your hiking shoes should be strong, comfortable, and well-worn to avoid blisters. Whether you choose “Benzers,” good “Salomons,” old sneakers, or brand-name “Nikes” is up to you. Of course, only a daredevil would tackle Kazbek in sneakers! However, for spring, summer, and autumn trekking in Turkey, regular trekking shoes should suffice. Your experience will depend on your physical condition and the route you choose. Typically, the first two days are the hardest as your body adjusts to the new physical demands. Around the third day, you might experience cramps, but this usually passes quickly. After another day, you’ll barely notice the backpack on your shoulders. By then, your body will be fully acclimated and you’ll have eaten most of your food. While each route has its own level of difficulty, most are suitable for beginners. In the clear waters of mountain rivers or lakes, you can bathe and wash. You can wash your hair in the river or by pouring water from a container. If the water is too cold, you can heat it over a fire—ten liters of hot water is enough to clean up to five people. You can brush your teeth near a spring or river. Modern hikers are fortunate to have access to wet wipes, which make body care much easier. However, we always take our trash with us, leaving our campsites clean. So, don’t forget to pack garbage bags for used wipes and other small trash.
